The fine weather reappeared for the weekend and with fields still relatively firm this created some very open flowing rugby with some high scoring games.

Premier & Prem Development Men ventured out to Waitakere and both returned home with maximum competition points, although Waitakere Prem side proved more stubborn than the score indicated, and they stayed in the contest until our stronger depth & fitness allowed us to pull away late in the game.

The Under 20 side ventured to Marist and challenged for the Keven Mealamu Cup which is the Challenge Trophy in their grade (up for grabs at each home game) and this was classic 80 minute game with 1^st 5/8 sealing it with a penalty kick to win it in the last play of the game.

This side has really come together well and are a good team to watch, playing with a mix of physicality, tactical nouse and some individual brilliance.

They will defend their trophy next week at home vs Ponsonby who are regarded as the ‘big guns’ of the grade this year, fielding many 1^st XV stars from 2018 however the Rifles team are a passionate bunch so expect a really good game to unfold.

Next weekend presents the first real challenge against Ponsonby who won the Waka Nathan Final vs Rifles but lost their first competition game vs Pakuranga the following week, but have since got their game on track with comfortable victories, our Rifles side are tracking well and will be keen to test themselves in this match up which will lead into a run of tough games in their pool.

No rugby over the Easter weekend but 27^th April with a full run of teams at home (Prem Men & Women / Prem Dev & U20) along with ANZAC celebrations will make for an exciting round of games next week.

Training for all of our Senior Teams is underway but we are always welcoming of any new players regardless of experience or ability, we are keen to increase our numbers in our First Grade & Women’s Development teams.
