Rough weather was the order of the day and probably the worst place to play on a day like that is at Marist with the wind usually coming off the water, it was going the other way but nevertheless was blowing a gale.
Our Premier Development side started the game with wind at their backs and using the wind well for field position they were able to be ahead 28-0 at halftime and worked hard into the wind in the 2nd half to achieve a meritorious 33-17 win and are shaping up well for a spot in the Top 4.
Our Premier Team followed and unfortunately were unable to gain the field position and dominance they would have liked and turned into the wind and faced with a really strong Marist challenge which they were unable to repel, with Marist using the wind well kept us pinned in the corners and were able to come away with a victory against us 34-7.
This leaves our Premier Team without to much wriggle room heading towards the semi-finals and our men will savour the opportunity to play at home this weekend against Pakuranga who are in a similar position to us, so expect a hard fought physical game this weekend with the winner well placed for the Top 4 and the loser hoping for results to help them sneak in come semi-final time.
Our T/Birds Women Premier side had a hugely dominant display over Ardmore Marist which cements their place in the Top 4 with the upcoming games to determine who we play and hopefully achieve a home semi-final with unbeaten Auckland Marist Women assured of the top spot.
Our Falcons Development side had a big win against a very weak University team 80-0 and while dominant will be disappointed that the game did very little to test our team who are performing very well.
Our Under 20 Team had a real arm wrestle with Pakuranga who has been strong all season and our side had to overcome a niggly Pakuranga challenge and will be pleased with their character & resilience but not necessarily the accuracy to record an 18-15 win and keep their push for a semi-final spot alive. A hugely passionate team they face last year Champions GTEC who are again very strong but our side will be fired up for the challenge they present.
Our Under 85kg Shooters recorded their first win of the season in a strong performance against Papatoetoe and will hope the monkey is off their back and they continue to grow and build as a side.
